Summer | Design Team: Jessica Michaels

Hey everyone! Jessica here, and I am so excited to show you this project today! As soon as I saw the sunburst paper in the Spring/Summer Season Pass kit, I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it!

I knew I wanted to create a 12x12 scrapbook page with the sunburst paper but pop a photo into the center of the sun and do some hand stitching on the rays. I started by cutting the sun out with my cutting mat and X-Acto knife. I then began poking holes down the orange rays and threaded embroidery floss through using a straight back-stitch. I used ombre orange thread to give it some color variation!

I added my photo (I actually had an oopsie moment with that, watch the YouTube video to see!) to the center of the sun and pulled alphabet letters from my stash for the title. I then added die cuts around the left side of the photo, popping some of them up with 3D foam squares.

I wanted to create a cascade of embellishments from the photo, so I started with a tab from the die cuts and added more embellishments and word phrases! At the bottom, I adhered some rub ons from the kit and finished it off with some stamping, thread, and acrylics from my stash. I even added some small splatters using some mixed media paint. Those acrylic flowers have been on my desk for ages and finally made it onto a layout! Yay!
