Sparks of Joy Layout | Design Team: Jessica Michaels
Hey friends, Jessica here! Today I’m sharing a travel notebook spread from my October Daily album using the new Layle by Mail October Release. This release is full of Glimmer moment stickers and die cuts, and it was a perfect fit for documenting a day of simple joys. I’ll walk you through how I put the spread together and why I made each design choice along the way.
Day 2 in my October Daily was filled with simple joys, and I wanted to bring that to life on this spread. I started with a photo collage on the left side, leaving the middle square and the bottom open for embellishing. Then I stamped a large number two with the Christine Large Alpha set using Peeled Paint Distress Oxide. I used second generation stamping so the color wasn’t so harsh. To make it pop, I added star stamps from the Glimmers stamp set and stamped “spark joy” over the number. I trimmed it out to make my own die cut for the middle square of the collage. Once it was adhered, I stamped “oct.” beside the two with the new Glimmers Alpha stamp set, which was designed to match the Glimmers word I stamped at the top of the right page using the Glimmers 3 stamp set.
The Sparks of Joy collection coordinates perfectly with the Glimmers products and makes it easy to document happy moments. I trimmed down one of the 12x12 papers for the right page. Since my October Daily album is normally Halloween themed, I wanted a little of that feel here, so I used an X-Acto knife to carve out a spiderweb effect for the journaling page. I left a blank spot in the center for my printed journaling and kept the embellishments simple. I added a few die cuts and stickers, plus a spider from the Moonlit Manor collection. For the photo collage, I brought in stickers from the new Out of Print Travel Edition sticker book. I love the junk journal feel of this book and how it works for any project!
To finish, I added numbers to my photos and journaling with the Typewriter Keys Alpha and die set, which really helped drive the story home. My husband had to go on a work excursion and asked if I wanted to ride along. Of course I said yes, since it was prime leaf peeping season! This collection was perfect for documenting the fun, quirky little adventures of the day. I sure hope you enjoyed documenting my adventures with me.
