Mini Album | Design Team: Nikki Sher

Hello fellow Layle by Mail friends!

It's Nikki Sher, and today I'm sharing another spread from my Traveler’s Notebook Mini Album. This page documents two very special friendships, but it also gave me the perfect opportunity to create a layout focused on storytelling and journaling.

When I started designing this spread, I knew I wanted the journaling to be the star of the show. The story behind these photos is too long to fit in a small caption, so I embraced a text-heavy design. I began with the 6x8 Lined Paper and used it as the foundation for both pages. The notebook-style lines help keep all of the journaling neat while reinforcing the memory-keeping theme of the layout.

To create a focal point on the left page, I typed my journaling onto white cardstock, added it to the lined paper and matted it with black cardstock. The black border helps define the journaling block and creates contrast against the lighter background paper. Since there is a lot of text on this page, I kept the embellishments simple and concentrated them at the top of the layout.

The "Here's the Story" stamp from the In the News 3 Stamp Set immediately caught my eye because it perfectly complements a journaling-focused page. I paired it with the newspaper stamp from the same set and flower diecut to create a simple title cluster. A rub-on scalloped border underneath helps anchor the cluster while adding a pop of color.

One of my favorite design elements on this spread is the rainbow striped paper peeking out from behind both pages. Not only does it tie all the colors together, but it also frames the layout and helps draw your eye across the entire spread.

To balance the large block of journaling, I added a single photo on the right page and matted it with pink cardstock to help it stand out. Since the left side already contains so much information, keeping the photo area clean and simple prevents the layout from feeling overcrowded.

I finished the spread with colorful About Last Month Date Stamps at the bottom of the page. Not only does it document when the memory occurred, but it also adds another pop of color and helps ground the photo visually.

This layout is a great reminder that not every scrapbook page needs lots of photos. Sometimes the stories themselves are the most important part of the memory, and a design centered around journaling is the perfect way to preserve them.

Thanks so much for stopping by today, and I'll see you again soon with another Layle by Mail project!

Happy crafting!

Best,

Nikki Sher
