Mini Travel Album | Design Team: Nikki Sher

Hello fellow Layle by Mail friends!

It’s Nikki Sher, and I’m back to share a fun mini album project using the new Far and Wide Collection! If you haven’t checked out this collection yet, you absolutely should. It’s filled with amazing patterns, colors, and fun travel-inspired elements — including brand-new products Layle by Mail has never offered before, like a 6x8 Paper Pad and 6x12 Stickers!

My family and I took a trip to Mexico over New Year’s this past year, and I couldn’t wait to start documenting our adventure in a mini album.

For the base of my album, I used the Simple Stories 4x6 Snap! Simple Grid Chipboard Binder. I absolutely love these new “neutral” albums from Simple Stories, and the size is perfect for documenting a trip without feeling overwhelming.

The Far and Wide Collection has such a great mix of colors, and I wanted to feature as many of them as possible on the cover. One of my favorite pieces in the collection is the large Film Strip Die Cut from the Large Die Cuts pack — it made the perfect focal point for my album cover!

After trimming a piece of 12x12 Paper for the cover, I layered some of my favorite patterns from the 6x8 Paper Pad behind each section of the film strip. From there, I created a large layered cluster using pieces from both the Die Cut Icons and Die Cut Titles packs. I love how vibrant and dimensional the finished cover feels!

The first page of my album had to feature our flight into Cancun! I originally shared this photo on Instagram the day we landed, complete with emojis that perfectly summed up the day — flight delays, exhaustion, and all. I watched the sunrise in the San Francisco airport that morning and the sunset from the airplane in Cancun that evening. It was definitely a very long travel day!

I’m always drawn to creating layered clusters on my projects, and this page was no exception. Using pieces from the Die Cut Icons pack, I created a cluster in the bottom right corner of the layout to help balance the page.

One of my favorite details is the hidden journaling tucked into the layout. See the tag peeking out from the side? I used one of the tags from the Die Cut Titles pack to add hidden journaling behind the page design. It’s one of my favorite ways to include the real story behind a memory without placing all the details front and center on the layout — especially for those less-than-perfect travel moments!

To finish the page, I added a phrase from the 6x12 Stickers for the perfect final touch.

I’m so excited to continue working on this Mexico mini album with the Far and Wide Collection, and I can’t wait to share more pages soon! Have you picked up the new  Far and Wide Collection yet? What adventures or trips would you document with it?

As always, stay happy, healthy, and crafty!

Best,

Nikki Sher
