Every little detail is just perfect, making me feel sentimental as I reminisce about holidays past. I think of my children writing letters to Santa, watching holiday movies together, and of course sending messages of love across the miles.

When I create I first like to go through my supplies because I think it’s so important to know exactly what I have to work with. I cut apart the 3x4” journaling cards and spread out all the die cuts. I sort them into groups like sentiments, trees, ornaments, etc.

I use sheets of clear plastic the size of my card base to arrange my design. When I’m happy with the design I slide different papers under the clear plastic to get a preview of the card before I commit and adhere everything in place.

 

I like to make scene cards adding hills of pattern paper, and trees in the background. Strips of washi or pattern paper also help define the foreground so that images don't look like they're "floating".

Journaling cards make great focal points for your designs because the secret for me is to alternate busy pattern paper backgrounds with solid or lighter color papers to create focal points. Word strip stickers and washi define the layers and the perfect placement is always over a seam where two prints meet.
