4th of July Banner | Design Team: Shellye McDaniel
It’s Patriotic Season and banners are such a fun way to decorate! Shellye McDaniel on the blog with you today to share how I stamped and die-cut a “Happy 4th of July” banner for my home.

First, I grabbed the Far and Wide 12X12 red/white dot paper, grid paper and the navy tracks paper. I selected the grid paper as the background for all of the letters to be stamped onto so I first stamped the largest In The Box Scallop Stamp twelve times with black ink. Next, I trimmed out the twelve pieces around the rectangle portion, discarding the scalloped edge.

For the background of each grid rectangle, I used the red/white dot and navy tracks papers. Again, I stamped the largest In The Box Scallop Stamp six times onto both papers. The twelve scallops were then cut out using the matching In The Box Scallop Metal Die. To make the banner more sturdy I used the same die to die-cut twelve pieces of heavy weight, white cardstock and then glued to the backs of the patterned scalloped rectangles.

I chose to use a mix of red and navy inks for the lettering, so I alternated those colors as I stamped “HAPPY 4th OF JULY” using the Tali Alpa Stamp Set , the Tali Numbers Set and the Destination Unknown Mini Stamp Set onto the grid rectangles. Notice that for the “4th” I stamped the “4” up a little higher so that I could stamp the smaller “th” below. I also chose to alternate the ink color with the scalloped rectangles color, so I had a red letter on a navy tracks papers, etc. After stamping the letters, the pieces were mounted onto the base rectangles with foam adhesive tape.

To combine the letters together I grabbed the Stars Metal Dies and some gold glittered cardstock from my stash. I die-cut the medium-sized star eleven times and the largest star twice. The points from the (solid) medium-sized stars were used as connectors as they were glued to the top edges of the rectangles. To add more dimension, the outside borders of the medium-sized stars were glued to the backs of the rectangles so they mirrored the solid stars. The outer piece of the two large stars were attached to the ends of the banner and a piece of ribbon strung through for a hanger.

You could also use a hole punch between each of the letters and tie through ribbon as a connector if you prefer a longer banner! Dress it up with even more die-cut stars, sparkly gems and ribbon to capture the celebration all summer-long!
